Ecowest Prekese is made from the pods of Tetrapleura tetraptera, a spice native to Ghana and Nigeria—commonly known as Aidan fruit or Prekese (“soup perfume”). It is traditionally used whole or ground to flavor West African dishes like Banga soup, pepper soup, or Nigerian stews. Its taste is described as subtly sweet, slightly astringent, and reminiscent of nutmeg, cloves, or citrus peel.

Prekese brings both rich natural aroma and potential health benefits; it’s known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, and is used in herbal teas for digestion, postpartum care, or general wellness.

To use, add a whole dried pod or ground powder to simmering soups, stews, or broths. The flavor infuses the dish and large pieces are removed before serving. It’s also used as a base flavor in teas or as a meat spice rub in some recipes.
